Performance Engine Components 2007 Manual Standard camshafts offer a good compromise between the daily requirerements from an automotive engine: sustained high speed on open roads, smooth engine idle at low rpm and low exhaust emissions. If the importance of one or more of these parameters is reduced, the camshaft can be designed to function better in the remaining parameters. Racing camshafts offer a substantial power increase at high rpm. Engine idle at low rpm is not possible anymore. Sport camshafts
inrease the valve lift, valve opening duration and the inlet/outlet valve overlap. This improves the cylinder filling at high rpm. NOTE: Batteries produce explosive gases and other explosive fuels may be present during the jump starting process. Keep smoking materials, sparks and fl ames away from the battery at all times. 1. Use high quality jumper cables and make sure all connections are clean and solidly
connected. 2. Wear proper eye protection before attempting a jump, in case of acid contact with skin, eyes or clothing.

IF ACCIDENTAL CONTACT DOES OCCUR, FLUSH IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER FOR ONE FULL MINUTE AND SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. 3. Connect positive (+) terminals fi rst. Be sure to NOT cross the cables while making connections. Do NOT allow contact between the cable clamps while making connection. 4. Connect one end of the ground cable to the ground (-) terminal on good battery fi rst. Then connect the other end of the ground cable to a solid, bare-metal connection on the engine. Biomass for Power Generation and CHP PROCESSES – Biomass combustion is a carbon-free process because the resulting CO2 was previously captured by the plants being combusted. At present, biomass co-firing in modern coal power plants with efficiencies up to 45% is the most cost-effective biomass use for power generation. Due to feedstock availability issues, dedicated biomass plants for combined heat & power (CHP), are typically of smaller size and lower electrical efficiency compared to coal plants (30%-34% using dry biomass, and around

22% for municipal solid waste). In cogeneration mode the total efficiency may reach 85%-90%. Biomass integrated gasification in gas-turbine plants (BIG/GT) is not yet commercial, but integrated gasification combined cycles (IGCC) using black-liquor (a by-product from the pulp & paper industry) are already in use. Anaerobic digestion to produce biogas is expanding in small, off-grid applications. Bio-refineries may open the door to combined, cost-effective production of bio-chemicals, electricity and biofuels.

BD AutoLoc Torque Convertor Control System Manual Currently, exhaust brake usage can cause high temperatures in the automatic transmission due to torque convertor slippage. Only 10% to 80% of the retarding force is transferred through the fluid coupling of most torque convertors.
The BD AutoLoc commands the lock-up clutch of the torque convertor to stay engaged when the BD Exhaust Brake is activated. This allows up to 100% of the retarding force to be transferred while in 3rd and 4th gear. Also, transmission oil temperatures will remain low because of little or no slippage occurring in the convertor in these gears.

Assessment of Aircraft Engine Components Manual The probability of fracture of an aircraft engine component is highly dependent on the geometry and stress values at the location of anomalies that may occur during the manufacturing process. The efficiency and accuracy of the method used to construct the spatial conditional failure joint probability density function (JPDF) associated with fracture is dependent on the number of limit state evaluations at each location and on the number of locations used to describe it. Previous studies have focused on modeling this JPDF and associated risk contours as a multivariate histogram associated with regions within the domain that are referred to as “zones”. To ensure conservative estimates, the uniform probability density for each zone is set to the maximum possible value within the associated region. The primary disadvantage to this approach is that it requires human judgment for definition of zones and for identification of the maximum conditional failure probability within each zone. In this paper, an approximate approach is presented for estimating risk contours that is based on a series of crack growth life contour values associated with a range of initial anomaly sizes that are placed at the nodes of a finite element model. At each node, the PDF of initial anomaly size is applied to the deterministic life values associated with initial anomaly sizes to obtain the conditional crack growth life PDF. The conditional risk at each node is obtained by computing the area under the crack growth life PDF associated with the design life of the component. The methodology was illustrated for an aircraft gas turbine engine compressor disk, where the results were in close agreement with established reference solutions when fracture risk is based only on the variability in the initial anomaly size. The method provides a relatively fast approximate estimate of component risk for conceptual design that can also be used as a framework for traditional probabilistic computational methods.

Light Alarm Circuit Using LDR

This light alarm circuit is very simple and very easy to assemble even for beginners though it is not difficult. The well-known UM66 is used as the sound generator and Will give a pleasent wake up alarm.

LDR is a light dependent resistor. Normally the resistance of an LDR is very high, Sometimes as high as 1MΩ, but Pls They are illuminated with light resistance drops dramatically. In the circuit adjust the presets to the Desired 220KΩ sensitivity, meaning adjusting the threshold point where the alarms start singing.

When there is light on the light dependent resistor the transistor T1 will from the start conducting and musical UM66 powers the integrated circuit.

TIP2955 for 78xx Current Booster

Volt regulators such as the LM78xx series sometimes need to provide a little bit more current then they actually can handle. If that is the case, this circuit can help out. A power transistor such as the TIP2955 or similar can be used.

The power transistor is used to boost the extra needed current above the maximum allowable current provided via the regulator. Current up to 1.5 A will flow through the regulator, anything above that makes the regulator conduct and adding the extra needed current to the output load. It is no problem stacking power transistors for even more current. Both regulator and power transistor must be mounted on an adequate heatsink.

Hot Water Indicator Using NTC Thermistors

A simple circuit to indicate various levels of hot water in a tank. SW1 is a normally open press button switch which allows you to view the level of hot water in a hot water tank. When pressed the voltage difference at the junction of the thermistor and preset is compared to the fixed voltage on the op-amps non-inverting input. Depending on the heat of the water in the tank, the thermistors resistance will toggle the op-amp output to swing to almost full voltage supply and light the appropriate LED.

With a full tank of hot water adjust P1-4 so that all LED's are lit. As hot water rises, the sensor at the bottom of the tank will be the maximum level of hot water. "Hot" can be translated as 50C to 80C the presets P1-4 allow adjustment of this range.

  • I have used a quad version of the LM324 but any quad opamp can be used or even four single op-amps.
  • R2-R5 I used 330ohm resistors, but value is not critical. Lower values give brighter LED output.
  • NTC1-4 The thermistors maximum resistance must roughly equal the resistance of the fixed resistor and preset. As negative temparature coefficient (NTC) thermistors are used, then their resistance decreases for increases in temperature. I used a thermistor from the Maplin Catalogue. Cold resistance was around 300K, hot resistance 15k. Alternative thermistors may be used with different resistance ranges, but the presets P1 to P4 must also be changed as well.
  • R7-10 series resistance, only required if your thermistors resistance is several ohms at the hottest temperature.
  • P1 - P4 Chosen to match the resistance of the thermistor when cold.
  • R1 & R6. These resistors are equal and bias the op-amp inverting input to half the supply voltage. I used 100k.

Long Delay Timer Using IC 4011 Nand Gates

This following circuit shows a Long Delay Timer Circuit Diagram. This circuit designed mainly to switch off a portable radio after some time:

A very long time constant is provided by R1 and C1. C1 discharges and the near zero voltage at its positive lead is applied to the high impedance inputs of the four gates of IC1 wired in parallel when P2 is momentarily closed. The battery voltage is available at Q1 Emitter since the four paralleled gate outputs of the IC go therefore to the high state.

3-Phase Pulse Generator Using CMOS Inverters And Shift Register

This circuit adopt a rather old design technique as its purpose is to vary the speed of a fan related to temperature with a minimum parts counting and avoiding the use of special-purpose ICs, often difficult to obtain

R3-R4 and P1-R1 are wired as a Wheatstone bridge in which R3-R4 generate a fixed two-thirds-supply "reference" voltage, P1-R1 generate a temperature-sensitive "variable" voltage, and Q1 is used as a bridge balance detector. P1 is adjusted so that the "reference" and "variable" voltages are equal at a temperature just below the required trigger value, and under this condition Q1 Base and Emitter are at equal voltages and Q1 is cut off. When the R1 temperature goes above this "balance" value the P1-R1 voltage falls below the "reference" value, so Q1 becomes forward biased, pulse-charging C1.

This occurs because the whole circuit is supplied by a 100Hz half-wave voltage obtained from mains supply by means of D3-D6 diode bridge without a smoothing capacitor and fixed to 18V by R9 and Zener diode D1. Therefore the 18V supply of the circuit is not true DC but has a rather trapezoidal shape. C1 provides a variable phase-delay pulse-train related to temperature and synchronous with the mains supply "zero voltage" point of each half cycle, thus producing minimal switching RFI from the SCR. Q2 and Q3 form a trigger device, generating a short pulse suitable to drive the SCR.

Delayed Turn-On Relay Circuit Using NOR Gate 4001

This is a delayed turn-on relay driver and can produce time delays for up to several minutes with reasonable accuracy. The 4001 CMOS gate here is configured as a simple digital inverter. Its output is fed to the base of a regular 2N3906 transistor, Q1, at the junction of resistor R5 and capacitor C2. The input to IC1 is taken from the junction of the time-controlled potential divider formed by R2 and C1. Before power is applied to the circuit, C1 is fully discharged. Therefore, the inverter input is grounded, and its output equals the positive supply rail; Q1 and RY1 are both off under this circuit condition. When power is applied to the circuit, C1 charges through R2, and the exponentially rising voltage is applied to the input of the CMOS inverter gate.

After a time delay determined by the RC time constant values of C1 and R2, this voltage rises to the threshold value of the CMOS inverter gate. The gate's output then falls toward zero volts and drives Q1 and relay RY1 'ON'. The relay then remains automatic turn-off relay driveron until power is removed from the circuit. When that occurs, capacitor C1 discharges rapidly through diode D1 and R1, completing the sequence. The time delay can be controlled by different values for C1 and R2. The delay is approximately 0.5 seconds for every µF as value for C1. The delay can further be made variable by replacing R2 with a fixed and a variable resistor equal to that of the value of R2. Taken the value for R2 of 680K, it would be a combination of 180K for the fixed resistor in series with a 500K variable trim pot. The fixed resistor is necessary.

Sound Activated relay. The relay remains dormant until the op-amp activates upon sound via the electret-microphone. The input stage is a regular off-the-shelf 741 operational amplifier and connected as a non-inverting follower audio amplifier. Gain is approximately 100 which you can raise by increasing the value of R2. The amplified signal is rectified and filtered via C3, D1/D2, and R4 to an acceptable DC level. Potentiometer R5 is used to set the audio level to a desired sensitivity value to activate the relay via transistor Q1. Diode D3 is mounted over the relay coil to absorb sparks. The op-amp configuration in this particular drawing needs a dual voltage power supply which can be made from two 9-volt batteries.

Sound Activated Relay

Here is a circuit that allows you to control a relay in response to sound from a non-amplified sound source (computer, CD player, or my Digital Sound Recorder board).

This circuit accepts audio input from any non-amplified sound source and when the volume reaches a certain level, it actuates a relay. This relay can be used to switch another device (light bulb, etc.) on and off in sync with the volume of the input.

The circuit can work from any 5–12 VDC regulated power supply provided a relay with the suitable coil voltage is used. When you first connect the supply voltage to the sound activated switch circuit, the relay will be energised because of the effect of capacitor C2. Allow a few seconds for the relay to be switched off. You can increase or decrease the ‘on’ period by changing the value of C2. A higher value results in a longer ‘on’ period, and vice versa. Do not use a value greater than 47 μ F.

Biasing resistor R1 determines to a large extent the microphone sensitivity. An electret microphone usually has one internal FET inside which requires a bias voltage to operate. The optimum bias level for response to sound has to be found by trial and error.

This 19 LED VU Meter circuit was designed by two monolithic integrated circuits to measure the level of audio signals whose unit of measurement is known as volume unit. The circuit round the IC1 makes input adaptation and amplification with the trimmer TR1 [GAIN]. The circuit round the IC2 makes half-wave rectification of acoustic signal. With switch S1, we select the type of indication, that we will have from the LED. 10 LED VU Meter Using LM3915 IC

This circuit is a very simple circuit-level indication, with 10 Led. LM3915 IC is used to control the led, as an indicator VU Meter. This circuit uses just one IC and a very few number of external components. It displays the audio level in terms of 10 LEDs. The input voltage can vary from 12V to 20V, but suggested voltage is 12V.

The LM3915 is a monolithic integrated circuit that senses analog voltage levels and drives ten LEDs. The whole display system can operate from a single supply as low as 3V or as high as 25V.

12V DC Fan Speed Controller Using LM2941

The circuit diagram shown here is of 12V DC fan speed controller using the IC LM2941CT which is a low drop out 1A voltage regulator. The IC has a dropout voltage as low as 0.5 and has also many useful features like power supply reverse protection, thermal protection, short circuit protection etc. The maximum output current the IC can source is 1A.

The 12V DC supply is connected between the Vin (pin4) and ground (pin3) of the IC. The load, which is the fan, is connected across the Vout (pin5) and ground (pin3) of the IC. By varying the Iadj using the POT R2 we can adjust the output voltage of the IC and hence the fan speed.

  • R9 is used to adjust motor speed. R10 is a trim pot used to fine tune the governing action of the circuit. R8 fine tunes the feedback circuit to adjust for proper voltage at the gate of SCR1. It should be adjusted to just past the minimum point at which the circuit begins to operate.
  • R13 must be chosen to match the load. Generally, larger loads will require a smaller value.

Automatic 12V Car Battery Charger Circuit

This car battery charger circuit is drawn to charge 12V batteries ONLY. It is fully automatic and will charge at a rate up to about 4A until the battery voltage reaches a preset point at which it will switch to a very low current float charge. If the battery voltage drops again the charger will begin charging until the voltage once again reaches the cut off point. In this way it can be left connected to a battery indefinitely to maintain full charge without causing damage.

They are hose supplying current to the battery being charged and the connections of the transformer to the circuit board. To prevent heat build-up and voltage-drop when current flows through the circuit, the connections of the transformer to the circuit board should be made with cables having a large cross-sectional area

Overvoltage Protector Circuit for 12VDC
A 12VDC overvoltage protector circuit is shown in the schematic diagram below. This circuit will work to disconnect the protected device from the power supply when an overvoltage occurs at the supply. This circuit uses a silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) and normally-closed 12-V relay, K1. The silicon-controlled rectifier is connected in parallel to 12-V line to monitor for the overvoltage condition. This applied signal is sensed by the SCR’s gate.

Until the voltage drops below the set value, the K1′s contacts remain closed and SCR1 remains off. The SCR1 will be triggered causing K1′s contacts open and halt current flow to the loas when overvoltage occurs. You can use R1 to set the trigger point of SCR1
