Enhanced Chrysler User Guide

Enhanced Chrysler will allow you to access systems not available with generic OBD-II. The enhanced Chrysler option is an add-on to the AutoEnginuity ScanTool. To offer this support, the enhanced Chrysler option utilizes a proprietary Chrysler electrical interface called SCI. Because of the electrical complexity of SCI, we were required to put Chrysler support on it’s own hardware.

The AutoEnginuity Enhanced Interface is universal can be be used for all Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Plymouth vehicles.


Chrysler SCI Interface Users
The Chrysler SCI Interface it can only be used on non-CAN Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Plymouth vehicles. Chrysler adopted the CAN OBD-II protocol for their newer ‘05+ vehicles; the users of the Chrysler SCI Interface will be required to use the OBD-II interface in this case. Should you be connected to the vehicle with the incorrect interface, the software will prompt you to swap connectors. RotorQ System Settings Guide

The RotorQ system is shipped with default settings that are in compliance with Daimler-Chrysler’s specifications. Most of the settings in the software should not need to be changed. Changing any of the settings that are not described below will likely make the system and it’s test results non-compliant. Future releases of the RotorQ software may hide these settings from the user. There are, however, settings that need to be changed to prevent extremely long test times. Some of these settings are in the program’s “File => Preferences => System Settings…” menu item.

System Settings:
The “System Settings…” dialog changes settings that apply to all tests for all models in the “Product Database.” This dialog is used to calibrate the entire RotorQ system. Most of these settings should only be changed if Daimler-Chrysler requires a change.

Chrysler 3.3/3.8L V6 Minivan Air Intake Install Guide

This is what we’re starting with; a bone stock engine bay. The first step is to disconnect the negative battery cable. This will help to prevent any potential electrical problems, and also will “reset” the PCM so that the computer will be able to “re-learn” the engine with the new intake in place. To disconnect the battery cable, you will need a 10mm socket or wrench. (Note that this may erase your radio station presets, so you might want to write them down first, just in case.)

Disconnect the temperature sensor located at the back of the flexible coupling. To do this, you need to slide the red lock back, then you can squeeze the black lever at the back and unplug the connector.Next, disconnect the PCV tube and loosen the two hose clamps before removing the flexible coupling, air box lid and air filter. To remove the air box lid, simply release the two clips, one is at the side of the airbox and the other is at the back. At that point, you can tilt the lid of the airbox up (as pictured at left) and slide it to the side slightly to disengage the tabs from the base of the airbox to remove it. The air filter then just lifts right out of the base.

Apart from the visible condition of the belt, which is explained fully in the General Instructions/Toothed Timing Belts section, there are several other factors which must be considered when checking a timing belt:
1. Is the belt an original or a replacement.
2. When was the belt last replaced and was it at the correct mileage.
3. Is the service history of the vehicle known. Has the vehicle been operated under arduous conditions which might warrant a shorter replacement interval.
4. Is the general condition of other components in the camshaft drive, such as the tensioner, pulleys, and other ancillary components driven by the timing belt, typically the water pump, sound enough to ensure that the life of the replacement belt will not be affected.
5. If the condition of the existing belt appears good, can you be satisfied that the belt will not fail before the next check or service is due.
6. If the belt does fail, have you considered the consequences.
7. If the engine is an INTERFERENCE type then considerable expensive damage may well be the result.
8. The cost of replacing a belt as part of a routine service could be as little as 5 to 10% of the repair cost following a belt failure. Make sure your customer is aware of the consequences.
9. If in doubt about the condition of the belt - RENEW it.
10. Refer to the Toothed Timing Belts/Service Replacement section for further information relating to arduous or adverse operating conditions, inspection and service replacement.

This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect for 15 months from date of publication. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.

2007 Audi A6 Avant Overview

Introduced in the 2005 model-year, the current generation of the A6 is relatively unchanged this year, apart from the fact that the V8 now develops 15 extra horsepower and that an S6 version with a 435-hp V10 is available. The Avant, as Audi names its station wagon models, is offered with a 3.2L V6 and Quattro full-time all-wheel-drive.
Interior and cargo area
As the vehicle is a bit low, front as well as rear access is relatively easy. The front seats are very comfortable thanks to such features as adjustable height and lumbar support. With tilt and telescoping steering, drivers easily find a very good driving position. Legroom is good, while headroom with the sunroof is tight for tall individuals.
In the back, the bench seat is comfortable for just two people because the transmission tunnel takes up the foot room in the middle. Headroom and legroom are sufficient. The seatback splits 60/40 and folds to form a floor that angles up slightly towards the front, leaving a gap behind the front seats. Fortunately, you can install a vertical net to keep animals or objects from falling into the gap. Cargo capacity is good, but the rather pronounced forward angle of the C-pillars prevents use of full height for about 40 cm. The hatch opens wide and there are four movable tie-downs.
Convenience and safety features
As you’d expect with Audi, cabin finish and the quality of materials are impeccable. Road noise could be better dampened. Total storage space is insufficient, mainly because the CD changer and owner’s manual take up nearly all the room in the glove compartment. It’s been a while since we saw a CD changer in a glove compartment.
Instruments and controls are well laid out. The MMI system, which is supposed to make life easier for the driver, is annoyingly complex, requiring several steps to access the audio or air conditioning functions. The latter is not the most efficient, taking too much time to reach the desired temperature because of a weak blower.

General notes on self-diagnosis
? The engine control unit has a self-diagnosis capability. Before carrying out repairs and fault finding the fault memory must be interrogated. The vacuum hoses and connections must also be checked (unmetered air).
? Fuel hoses in engine compartment must only be secured with spring-type clips. Clamping-type or screw-type clips must not be used.
? A voltage of at least 11.5 V is required for proper operation of the electrical components.

Audi A3 and A6 Window repair

It seems like the electric windows on the A3 and A6 cars are a common problem. The most common symptom is the windows goes down, and then doesn’t rise back up, then winds itself back into the door. You’ll find if this happens you can ease the window up by working the switch while guiding the window up by hand.
Symptoms
A small plastic clip that holds the window to the lifter breaks, and the lifter cable comes away from the mechanism. The window then lifts at an angle, and then jams in the guides. The system senses that a jam has occurred and assumes something is caught in the window, and drops it again as a safety measure.
The Cure
The best thing to do is to fit new clips, or if you like, you could try gluing the old ones. I wouldn’t recommend this as they are likely to break again and you will end up stripping the door all over again! Before you start, lower the window fully.
You will need a selection of tools including screwdrivers and Torx bits (the screws holding the glass are T45, apparently), some smallish cutters, and some plastic cable ties might be handy. You should also allow enough time and/or good weather to complete the job, as you have to remove chunks of the door structure. Don’t worry- it’s not difficult.
Taking the door apart
First remove the door card. Unscrew the screws either end at the top:
Remove the screw under the door pull (circled, but not clear in my photo), pull out the cover, and remove the 2 screws underneath. The door card will now lift upwards and off. Be careful of the cables.
Release the metal clip, and detach the door release cable from the handle.
Disconnect the electrics from the door card. You’ll need a small screwdriver for the window switch, as there’s a small tab to release. You have to remove some foam from around the window/mirror switches too, but that’s not in the photo. It just pulls out.
Removing the door subframe
A lot of the door framework, the door mirror, and the winder mechanism are all on a subframe that lifts out of the panelwork. Alignment of the subframe is critical to the door shutting properly, so you need to mark it’s position. There’s 4 Torx bolts, 2 wedges, 1 bracket and 2 dowels that locate the subframe. Before you start mark the position of the wedges (at the bottom) with a marker pen.

2001 Audi A6 Alternator Replacement Procedure

STEP 1: REMOVAL OF UNNECESSARY HARDWARE
- Remove plastic skid plate at bottom of engine compartment.
- Remove all plastic covers from within the engine compartment.
- This includes the removable resilient stripping that seals the hood and engine compartment.
- Remove the cover that is toward the firewall that houses the battery.
- Remove the cover from the power steering fluid reservoir.
STEP 2: DISCONNECT BATTERY
- Be sure to use caution.
STEP 3: REMOVE FRONT BUMPER ASSEMBLY
- Remove the interior wheel wells. They are held on by about 14 various bolts.
- Remove the black housings that cover the area where the fog lights are. They are simply clipped in and require some pulling to remove.
- Disconnect the fog light electrical connections for each fog light from under the car.
- Remove 2 bolts (1 on each side) under the car where two metal pieces join for support.
- Disconnect the front bumper wiper-spray electrical connection for each wiper motor.
- Disconnect the spray line on the driver side. There is a plastic clip that must be gently removed, then the line simply pulls apart. Use a baggie and zip-tie to secure the end of the line from the reservoir to control loss of wiper fluid.
- From below the car (or on the passenger side do it from the wheel well), remove 6 nuts (3 nuts on each side) that hold the bumper of the car to the front quarter panels. This is a less obvious step that took me awhile to figure out because the nuts appear captive to the quarter panel, but are not.
- Using a metric allen wrench (NOT a torx bit), remove the 2 long bolts (1 bolt on each side of the car) that secures the bumper to the front of the car. The bolts are tucked away up in the area where you removed the black housing in the fog light area. The bolts are about 6” to 8” long and can be used later to assist with bringing the radiator/intercooler assembly forward. It will take a bit of time to get them removed. Pull on them periodically until removed to ensure that you aren’t just spinning.
- Now wrestle the bumper off and set it aside. When you are wrestling the bumper off of the car you need to be sure to be careful with the 6 threaded fasteners (3 on each side) that secure the bumper to the front quarter panels. There is a black insert on each fastener that can cause the bumper to stick to the quarter panel.

Alfa Romeo Camshaft Timing and Installation

Included in this document is a cam-timing template. Follow the instructions for the template to check the timing marks on the front camshaft bearing caps. If necessary, scribe new timing marks onto the cam caps.To install the camshafts, start by putting the engine to Top Dead Center (TDC) - #1 cylinder. TDC #1 is when the #1 cylinder piston is at the top of it’s stroke, and the #1 camshaft lobes are pointing to the outside of the engine (intake lobe pointing toward the intake manifold, exhaust lobe to the exhaust manifold). TDC is the “P” mark on the crankshaft pulley. Make sure the timing pointer on your engine is really pointing to TDC. It is best to use a TDC gauge to check this. Adjust the pointer if necessary. Remove the original camshafts following the instructions in your Alfa shop manual. Transfer the two camshaft sprockets to the new cams to be installed. Inspect the cam followers for wear. If there are any irregularities or crazing on the tappet surface (where the lobe hits), replace the tappets.

If the cylinder head is on the bench, install the cams and adjust the valves before installing the head onto your car. Be aware that when the cams are installed open valves will extend below the surface of the head. Do not lay the head down on its surface, as valves will be bent.
Lubricate the camshafts journals, lobes, and cam followers liberally. Do not turn the cams dry for any reason. If necessary, the cam journals can be cleaned up with some emery cloth and your thumb
.
If the head is on the car, after disconnecting the timing chain, turn the crankshaft counterclockwise 90 degrees to get plenty of valve-to-piston clearance. Now you can remove and replace the cams, as well as turn each cam independently for ease of valve adjustment, without hitting a piston with a valve. After the valves are adjusted, line the cams up with the timing marks on the cam caps. Turn the crankshaft clockwise to TDC. Following the instruction in your shop manual, adjust the camshaft timing and chain tension, tighten the cam nuts, and install the small bolts and lock nuts.
